Decisiveness is Sought After

Whether it is your friend, family, romantic relationship or place of work decisiveness is sought after.

I would like to share a story with you to illustrate the point. This story takes place in the military

A Major is tasked with researching information for their squadron to make an educated decision of the two options in front of them. He spends 56 hours researching the information to help guide them to the best possible option.

After a meeting of a mere 45 minutes the General stands up and says, "Go with option B. I want you to pour all our energy, effort, resources and personal into this option. Meeting adjourned."

The Major approaches the General privately and asks, "General, do I have permission to speak freely and express my opinion?" General, "permission granted." The Major goes on to ask how the General could make a decision so quickly after only a 45 minute meeting after he had spent 56 hours researching and still lacked all the information.

To the Majors surprise, the General claimed that we never really have all the information. If option B was the wrong option they would know very quickly instead of spending months or even years gaining clarity on all the information.

However, if the option was correct they would already be ahead of schedule and on the right path learning along the way.

Even though the General did not have all the information he made a quick informed decision, this is probably why he had been promoted in the first place.

Whether you are in the midst of making a decision, it is imperative to make the decision, commit and pour all your resources into this decision.

If it is the wrong decision you will know quickly.

If it is the right decision you will be on the right track and moving quickly in the right direction learning along the way.

Successful people make quick decisions because they know their values. So not only is it important for you to know your values, but it is highly important, and even sought after, to make decisions quickly.
